EU/UNDP project “Combat the Negative Effects of Chernobyl Disaster in Belarus”: Contest of the Project Ideas

The Contest of the Project Ideas was announced on 2nd March under the joint EU/UNDP action “Combat the Negative Effects of Chernobyl Disaster in Belarus”. The contest closes on March 31, 2010.

According to the results of the contest, the most interesting and economically viable project initiatives will be selected for funding. Implementation of those project ideas will improve the living conditions of inhabitants from 4 target districts: Buda-Koshelevo, Vetka, Zhitkovichi and Khoiniki districts of Gomel Region.

The ideas should be aimed at solving socio-economical and environmental problems, as well as addressing the problems related to employment issues, economic development and income generation of local inhabitants of the project districts.

Experience of project implementation in Chernobyl-Affected area shows that many residents of contaminated districts actively and enthusiastically participated in solving problems of their districts. Unfortunately, quite often they are short of financial support, resources, knowledge and opportunities.

The joint EU/UNDP project “Combat the Negative Effects of Chernobyl Disaster in Belarus” will give an opportunity and resources to the winners of the Contest of Project Ideas. The financial assistance for project initiatives’ implementation will be available in the amount of 1 to 50 thousand dollars. However, the winners should count only on 50% of the required amount. The remaining 50% should be delivered from local sources of funding in the form of cash assets, works, property / equipment.

The project Regional Coordinators work in each of the four project districts with the main office in Gomel. You may address to them any inquiries you have or ask for any additional information about the Contest, conditions of participation, assistance in designing the project.

Once the Idea has changed the lives of people! In October 2009, in Vetka town, Gomel Region, the only children playground was opened thanks to the initiative of the local residents.

We are looking forward your Ideas, which could improve the life of your area!
